I receieved a letter saying I could have a free listing in the guide, that was in Oct 2009, I was just literally going out of the door to hospital for a large operation so didn;t take too much notice, signed it and sent it back.I actually thought it was part of my Equine trade Directory which I am listed in and it was the Europeab version . Many months later, May 2010 to be recise, I received a bill and a cd neither of which I wanted.I wrote to them saying I wasn’t interested and wanted to cancel it, no I wasn’t allowed to apparently, I was getting worried as I don’t have the sort of money they wanted to pay for it.Then the letters started arriving, one after the other, it’s then I googled them and found out how people are being misled uinto signing these things, I felt very stupid as I am usually on the ball about scams but it cousght me out.
I had a phone call from Maria Rodriguez who is supposed to be the legal dept (yeah right) told her I knew it was a scam and p off.She rang back and snottily said I don;t think you are in any postion to hang up so then she got the really verbal, no more calls but today we have this :
Dear Sir,

We refer to our telephone conversation of this morning and we note with disappointment your inability to engage in professional dialogue and communication and failure to assume your legal, professional and contractual responsibilities.

Please note that you are definitely NOT in a position to interrupt the conversation by hanging up the phone and we would strongly advise that you should refrain from such a_ctions in the future with a view to avoiding further costs and complications.

Contractual law stipulates that inadvertent orders resulting out of prior negligent examination of commercial offers and agreements are the responsibility of the subscriber and this has been confirmed by jurisprudence. A legally binding signature on a document is an indication that the form has been read and understood and that the signatory wishes to confirm his agreement to the whole content of the document, i.e. to the order conditions as well.

All these a.m. points would be held against you in case of a legal procedure in Spain. If you consult a solicitor, he will confirm the situation as exposed above. Legal a_ction would certainly not be in your interest.

We thus give you this last chance to obtain an out of court solution and settle the amount of 2341,99 EUR until and no later than 03.02.2012nto our account. This would then terminate the order with immediate effect, payment being regarded for full and final.

In the negative, our mandate would force us to strongly advise our client to initiate legal proceedings in the place of jurisdiction that you agreed to, contained in the orders conditions, i.e. Valencia in Spain. This procedure will generate additional costs for you such as dunning fees, interests for delay and other juridical costs.

We believe that costly court proceedings are not in your interest and thus count on your cooperation to finally resolve this outstanding issue.

We anticipate that you will honour your contractual obligations to our company and settle your payment as soon as possible.

Received yet another cd in the post the other day too which has gone in the bin.
If they want to waste their money it’s up to them.

I am not surprised that many companies in the UK have fallen for this appalling scam just as I fell for it. They have contacted me with several reminder letters to pay up or my company details would be passed to debt collectors. All I had done was shredded their junks and put them in the recycling bag!!! I will never pay them a dime. They are so deceptive and something needs to be done about them.

This support is second to none when your having doubts….On Monday I had about 5-6 phone calls from a Mr Paul Frances AKA debt collector for ECG and today another 3 which I recorded, unfortunately I did come across very nervous but will not be feeling like this again as my advice from solicitor from Small Business Federation which I’m a member, advice is of what David has said on here, I will tell him if he calls again I’m reporting him to OFT for Harasment!!! They will never get a penny from me its so hard to digest that they actually get away with it and some people even loose money Lets stick together guys and not let this scum win or get any money out of other people.

A week ago I receive a statement from ECG stating I now owed them 2 years worth of payments (some 200 Euros)
I cancelled this 2 years ago.
To-day I receive new copy of the guide and will no doubt get yet another demand.
The answer is to ignore them completly. Do not allow them to get to you emmotionally.
If you get any calls try to respond in a way that adversly effects there emotions, if you follow my drift!! No one likes the thought of there children, or themselves dying of C.

My pile of paper is getting bigger, my thoughts are that this all costs them something, so less profit for them. Keep it comming you scammers, I am happy to see any of your profit wasted.

I just received a letter from ECG today, and thought that it looked a bit dodgy, so googled them.

Seems a clear case of a scam. I dont understand why some of the people above seem to have concerns about not paying. Its simple enough, ECG dont have a legal leg to stand on, and so reply on a few letters and phone calls to try to intimidate people into paying.

Dont pay, and when they contact you by phone, Calmly tell them that you will not be paying, ever, and that you will happily see them in court (they will never actually take you to court, as they have no leg to stand on).

by remaining calm, you are taking away their only weapon, which is YOUR EMOTIONS AND FEAR. They can bluff all they like, but you just need to accept that it is all just a bluff.

Yes, you are right. Let’s stick together.
there is also something strange in the problem. I(my company) recieved a new invoice. Like the first one but I had to pay for the second edition which didn’t appeared yet because my “contract” was from february 2011. The text on invoice and on the letter it was like nothing happened we didn’t argued on the item, and everything is OK. In my opinion this kid of bussiness runs automaticaly like on computer. i think all the letters are same and delivered regularly to “clients”. it is better not to pay because in case of payments we finance without knowing thi “bussiness”, the girls who are typing the letters, the costs of stamps and post, and also the profit of the big daddy.
For example if 1000 letters are sent by one month and only 1% are paying, it means 10 poor guy who sent in the big daddy’s poket almost 10.000 Euros!! You pay 2 girls for 1200 Euros each for writting letters, post them ,and speaking threatenly at phone oversea, and you have more than 7.500 Euros in pocket. Nice bussines I am sorry I wasn’t faster than this idiot. I could live in Miami, reach. So, don’t pay!

Have received many letters and threatening letters of court action over the last couple of years none of which I have replied to but have kept them all. I visitthis website everytime I receive one and it calms me down. Received a very unpleasant phone call this week and just put the phone down. He rang again but I didn’t speak and waited until he hung up. Who knows what happens next. I have contacted my MSP just this week but am not expecting much help. Have only just gone and got myself scammed again this week with another bunch calling themselves remotecomputersupport. It all leaves you feeling a little vulnerable but thank goodness for this site and others like it. We must all stick together and one day it will all end hopefully.

Sorry to hear that you have fallen into the trap. It sounds like they will take whatever payment they can convince you to pay. “Anything is better than nothing” to them I guess. Best advice that seems to be coming from people here is to just ignore them, ignore their threats and pay them nothing. If you have signed up, then make sure that you inform them that you want to be removed from the guide, and want no further contact. Then just ignore all the threats, demands, final demands and calls!
